from girls night :)

“Lights, Camera, TAKE Action—Are You Ready For Your Big Break?”
so im currently working on final edits on my website and it dawned on me I havent even said MUCH on my weekend trip to NYC. probably, because im just in shock on how much i learned and how many great people i met in 2 days during my stint out there.
no lie, NYC always freaked me out. i dont know if it was all the law & order episodes, crazy stories of the taxi drivers [ which by the way are ALL true lol] or the fact that their streets have LOW numbers and HIGH numbers meeting at a single intersection… [weird.] but im proud of myself because i went ALL BY MYSELF and came home alive, and with an entire revamped outlook on my business goals.
when my cabbie drove into Times Square i was like a kid in a candy store.. all i wanted to do was jump out, run around and take pictures i was so excited. seeing all the things that i saw from home on TV was amazing to me, and i was right there in it. so many people all with a variety of style and personalities, it was a mosh pit of theatre, music, fashion, business, commerce, everything in that tiny sector. i fell in LOVE.
as far as the workshop i attended, “Lights, Camera, TAKE Action” facilitated by author, model and stylist, the Great Scott Mckenzie, his mother, acclaimed casting director and acting coach Wendy Mckenzie and manager and marketing director Brother Hassan Sharif, i was utterly speechless. Sure i follow them on Twitter, and we talk, they provide knowledge but actually being in their presence and hearing their wisdom and industry knowledge was an irreplacable experience.
the workshop was great, i cant stress that enough. SO happy i went, i think the cost of airfare balances out to the invaluable people I met and networking i did.

As I’m sitting here, trying to figure out why it’s SO many people in the world and only a laughably small amount of people that actually become successful, it hit me. Humans count themselves out before the game is done. Life is only a game. A skewed perspective, fragile, fucked up game, but a game none-the-less. You have to be strategic. You have to be prepared, like a boxer, runner, ball player, whatever your platform is in life, you MUST be prepared. You always have to play to win.
Showing up to your prime-time event having never practiced, trained, rehearsed a day in your life is just as bad as not showing up at all. Your prime time event could happen at any given moment so the moral is be prepared at all times. You cant have an off day, you cant rest, because the day you’re slippin’ that’s the day somebody is capitalizing on what COULD have been for you.
Always dress to impress, have your shit together and be on your toes. The people that are constantly complaining about their environment, complaining about they cant make moves cuz they don’t have this or that are the ones to stay away from. People like that are dead in the game and don’t even know it. Some of the most successful people come from nothing, not those born with a silver spoon in their mouth although they like to paint that illusion. Their having nothing feeds their thirst for having more. You appreciate shit more when you didn’t have shit to begin with. So what the odds are against you starting out…man up! You didn’t have money coming up…go get it! You grew up in a fucked up neighborhood—aspire to move out of it!
The fucked up part about it is life is SO short. I almost lost mine on my birthday ironically of this year. Ever since that day I haven’t looked at life the same. From the time we take our first breath our stopwatch is ticking. Never make excuses for what you don’t have just focus on getting the missing things and then some. Don’t take yourself out the game because pretty much everyone in the world is pre-programmed to do that for you. Never sleep on yourself, you have to know you’re the shit at what you do and constantly find ways to improve. The day you’re content with where you are in life is the day you have failed.
